This state-of-the-art hospital, which is under construction at St James’s Hospital in Dublin, will cost at least €1.4 billion and is due to open in the second half of 2024. It is seven storeys high, including an underground car park with 1,000 spaces and has 160,000m2 of accommodation over 6,150 rooms. There are 22 operating theatres, some with specialised facilities and a hospital school.
The key risks on this project is the sheer size and scale with a vast array of temporary works. Paul has been overseeing health and safety onsite by providing regular health and safety inspections, temporary works inspections, specialist health and safety inspections, risk assessments, audits, method statements toolbox talks and training.
Regular communication with the specialist sub-contractors is also a must on this project to ensure full safety compliance.
The hospital is the largest, most complex and significant capital investment healthcare project ever undertaken in Ireland.
