This £30 million, multi storey car park (MSCP) was built in the centre of Milton Keynes. The project was a major development, converting a ground floor car park into a 4 storey MSCP with 1,400 car parking spaces right next to the Centre:mk, Milton Keynes largest shopping centre.
The 52 weeks build project involved over 160 people – so careful thought and consideration had to give to health and safety policy, communication and training for all. It also required its own vehicle management strategy to minimise impact on the day to day running of the rest of the shopping centre. Paul crated an efficient solution ensuring the delivery and installation of precast concrete stair cores, feature walls, door units, stair core cladding panels and the colonnade.
The stair cores were erected first (over 9 weeks) and were built in a sequence to allow the steel erectors to follow on afterwards. The erection of the steel frame required five 60 tonne cranes to manoeuvre the sections into position safely. Once the steel frame was complete the feature walls and colonnade, took 11 weeks to install in accordance with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
